The Mississippi River is a very long river. It is one of the longest in the world. Many people study the river. They use tools to measure and test the water.
The river has many sights and sounds. Here are some: birds, barge motors, boat whistles, the wind and people playing.
Many kinds of birds live near the Mississippi. It has water to drink, fish and insects to eat and trees to nest in. The Great Blue Heron is one of the biggest birds living along the river.
Some people study the river with computers. With the right information, they can study the whole, long river.
Mississippi River water is not clear. It has a lot of dirt particles floating in it. Lots of fish live happily in the dark brown river. One kind is the catfish.
Many birds gather in groups. Sometimes you can see pelicans, egrets, ducks and geese in large crowds on sandbars.
Wood ducks are colorful birds that live along water. They are fun to look at and have a tiny squeaky voice.
People began exploring the Mississippi River a long time ago. One thing they did was draw maps to show where the river went.
Many animals live together along the Mississippi. You can see birds, fish, turtles, frogs and snakes. You might see or feel insects, too!
Imagine landing on the water like ducks do! It looks like fun!
