Consortium

The Mississippi RiverWebSM Museum Consortium is a partnership developed to create computer-based exhibits that focus on the Mississippi River. The goal of the partnership is to develop a suite of exhibits to be installed at each museum in the partnership. These exhibits are designed to help people learn about the Mississippi River as a complex interrelated system where ecological, physical, and cultural forces interact.

At the RiverWebSM exhibits in each museum, you can investigate this complex river system as if you were a scientist or naturalist. The exhibits -- the Digital River Basin, Virtual River Pilot, and Visualization Station -- all employ simulations of three 40-mile stretches of the river basin based on scientific data.

You can interact with this virtual river by taking water samples, diving below the surface to count the fish population and comparing one location to another. These exhibits will help you "see" the Mississippi in ways never before possible.

The Mississippi RiverWebSM Museum Consortium was funded by a $1.7 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
